Background

D. Ryan Nussey

Ryan is our lead attorney of the Family Law Department at Klineburger & Nussey, P.A. Ryan practices in all areas of Family Law, focusing each case on working towards resolutions that fit the needs of the particular client. The theme of the Family Law Department is to reach an effective resolution, while always being prepared to litigate each case if the need arises.

Over the years, the Family Law Department at Klineburger & Nussey, P.A. has experienced its fair share of high profile, high conflict divorces as well as custody cases. Ryan has successfully litigated interstate custody matters where children have been unlawfully removed from one parent and taking out of state. On one occasion, with the assistance of the FBI, the child in question was located after litigation on a private farm in Pennsylvania. The child was then reunited with Ryan’s client and custody remains with him to date. On a more recent occasion, after successfully litigating a temporary restraining order for a client that was filed by a litigant attempting to circumvent the custody process, Ryan then successfully litigated the matter in Ocean County over the course of nine Orders to secure custody for said client, with the child being located in the state of Florida. Suffice it to say, the reunion between parent and child was emotional.

The Family Law Department handles divorces, from start to finish. Both the high conflict, high asset, as well as the mediated cases that reach resolution without ever entering the Courthouse. There is no one size fits all to the approach at Klineburger & Nussey, P.A., but rather a goal to reach a global resolution that allows the client to move forward with their life.

The Family Law Department further handles all custody matters, Domestic Violence Complaints and Restraining Orders, as well as weapons forfeiture. Recently, during the pandemic Ryan successfully won an appeal against the state of New Jersey where a client’s weapons were being improperly forfeited. Ryan has further enforced valid Restraining Orders at the Appellate level, and has overturned Restraining Orders that were improperly entered. Ryan and his partner also successfully won the appeal at the New Jersey Supreme Court on child surname changes.

Ryan and his team are also involved in many cases addressing the rights of the LGBTQ community, and the firm are avid emotional and financial supporters of the local PRIDE events in his community.

Ryan also handles the negotiation of prenuptial agreements with delicacy, recognizing the nuanced approach to such matters where couples are negotiating difficult terms while remaining in an intact relationship.

This partnership at Klineburger & Nussey, P.A. is a passion project for Ryan that has endured for almost twenty (20) years. The combination of the Family Law Department and the civil and criminal department lead by Richard allows for the client’s entire matter and issues to be serviced and allows clients to get their questions answered in one place.

Ryan’s background includes a dual degree from the University of Delaware in Political Science and Spanish, making him fluent in the Spanish language. He obtained his Juris Doctor from Widener University School of Law. During his time in law school, he worked in with the Juvenile Advocacy Program where his interest in family law was peaked.

Over the years, Ryan has been active at the local and State Bar level, acting as trustee to the State Bar Association as well. He has further lectured in family law with NJCLE and through the Court system with the Parent Education Program. He served as a member of Family Law Executive Committee of the New Jersey State Bar association. In his free time (not that there is much of it), Ryan is an avid runner and health advocate.
